Haiku – Waste

Written for: Haiku Horizons

wasteland’s silent cries
echoes in Mother Earth’s heart
breathes in its marrow

That’s similar to how I felt when we were standing on the battlefield in Gettysburg.

Monuments: A Grief Remembered

The land remembers
red, flowing blood of her sons;
mourns — battle-scarred, mute.

Wind, a grief unspent,
wails over fallow fields, cries

This was what I wrote when I got back to my daughter’s that afternoon.
