dewy morning rain
quench dawning willow tree leaves
sun glory on buds

reverent mountain
honour sumptuous silence
monk walking on path

serene river flow
awakening summer breeze
she came into view

snow on her small beak
mother sparrow spread her wings
take flight to blue sky

  1. Each of these poems is successful. The first and last seem self-contained to me, whereas the middle two strike me as very suggestive, inviting me to fill in the blanks, so to speak: what is the monk like? who is ‘she’?
